Starting at 11:30PM on Saturday, June 25th, 2005, I rebooted many of our routers. Most everything went clean and without hiccup or problem. Items that did not go clean: A typo I had in the start up config caused our dialup modem routers to not come online right away, instead of an interruption of 7-8 minutes, it was closer to 25 minutes while the configurations were updated and the units rebooted 2 more times. A change to the dialup modem firmware was required with the new code update, this took about 1 minute to complete and the new modem code is loaded onto the modems. We are looking forward to the results of these upgrades. Code changes for the 6400 router, where DSL is terminated, did *not* go smoothly and the configuration and code were returned to their previous revisions. Moving customers from one router blade (old code) to another router blade (new code) did not work. We will need to do more testing as to why this did not work as expected. As of right now, the DSL service is still running on the original code base from before this weekend. Our monitoring system started paging us because some of the SNMP object identifiers (OID) had changed during the code update and resulting reboot sequence. The OIDs were updated in the monitoring system and everything has been verified as up and operational.
