The OC12c is back online and we are routing traffic once again. The problem in Chicago, IL probably affected us earlier in the evening with routing burps and performance issues. The actual outage, though, came from MCI directly (not MCI/UUNET). We have 2 OC12c links between the MCI point of presence and our data center, a working link and a protect link. Somehow, tonight, our OC12c cut over from the working link to the protect link and we had to wait for MCI to fiddle with the MUX to bring swing the connection back from the protect link onto the working link. Of course, now that we know what the problem was, the solution was clear, reaching this level to get the problem resolved, though, was the hard part. Again, I apologize for the outage tonight. I'll be talking with MCI tomorrow about this issue and see if they can figure out why this happened.
