It was some sort of short lived SAN related issue, I was not involved
and have not personally heard the details yet what happened but
apparently  Centos 5.x marks its partitions pretty
quickly to be RO when there is a problem. SUSE was fine, Centos6 was
fine, Windows 2008 was fine, etc.
