Services affected (warnings or errors):
Interconnecting network cabling issue for the interior networking
used by VMware for connecting virtual machines to external networks
or vShield Edge devices.
There were 12 VMs on the hosts with the issue though only VMs
connected using vShield Edge devices were affected. Of the 12 VMs
only 3 of them were connected to vShield Edge devices.
Issue lasted approximately 20-25 minutes and was brought about
because of an addition of 2 physical hosts to the cluster. The
cabling for the ephemeral network was not terminated into the
correct switches and traffic passing between physical hosts on the
ephemeral network was not working for the new hosts.
Reason for service degradation:
This is the difficult to describe because it really needs a drawing
to show how it connects together.
Basic: VM -> ephemeral nework -> vShield Edge -> Internet
Problem was with the ephemeral network and cabling on 2 physical
hosts (out of 6 physical hosts).
Issue mitigated by putting the hosts into maintenance mode and
letting VMware vMotion move all of the virtual machines to other
available physical hosts.
Physical cabling is being fixed right now and hosts will be brought
back online after a physical check is done.
