Owen,

Thanks for the answers, I just wanted to get the discussion going since you will not be at the meeting.

Owen,

Since you will not be around for the meeting, would you mind answering a couple questions so the membership knows where you stand on the following issues?

PVLAN service.  What are your opinions on if MICE should offer it or not.

I’m mostly agnostic.  If we have the technical bandwidth to provide it and we have members that feel it adds

value to the exchange, I’m not opposed to doing it. However, we should not let it negatively impact the core

mission as a carrier neutral cooperative exchange.

Do you see any major conflicts between your other affiliations/obligations and MICE?  I am interested both from the standpoint of availability, as well as from the professional interest point of view.

If I saw any conflicts, I would not have stepped up to run.

Akamai is a long standing member of MICE and I believe that what is good for MICE is also beneficial to Akamai. Should a situation arise where I see that Akamai could benefit in an unbalanced way from a decision faced by the MICE board, I would immediately disclose that information to my fellow board members and recuse myself from any votes on the matter.

I cannot imagine a scenario where my role on the ARIN AC could pose a conflict of interest with my duties to the MICE board.

In terms of availability, I recognize that joining the board of an exchange requires taking the time to do the job right and I would endeavor to be present either physically or remotely for as many meetings as possible as well as attending to ancillary duties outside of meetings as they arose. I realize that not being present for the election meeting does not set me off on the right foot in this area. LACNIC and ARIN are a total of 4 meetings per year. Hopefully going forward MICE will at least work around the ARIN meetings and I suspect conflicts with LACNIC meetings will be the exception rather than the rule.

I hope this adequately addresses your concerns.

Owen

I will be in Costa Rica for LACNIC on that date. As such, I will unfortunately be unable to attend,

even remotely.

As such, I would like to take this opportunity to make a brief statement for the consideration of

the membership regarding my candidacy…

As most of you know, I have been a fan of MICE virtually since its inception. I think that the

leadership to date has done an excellent job keeping MICE as an open volunteer-run community

exchange and I would appreciate the opportunity to continue in that tradition.

I believe that my long history serving the community as a member of the ARIN Advisory Council

and my record as an active participant on various community-oriented lists for many years

shows my commitment to the community and my desire to serve. I believe that in terms of

skills and abilities I have the necessary understanding of the community and the

environment and structure of exchange points and peering, not only in terms of the people

and networks involved, but also the fiscal realities and the efforts involved in keeping

this a vibrant and effective effort on behalf of the community.

I appreciate your consideration and your confidence. If you have any questions, please feel

free to email me at any time.
